Education Day, 15 January, 2022

THE BROMLEY & CROYDON ORGANISTS’ ASSOCIATION
and
THE SOUTHWARK AND SOUTH LONDON SOCIETY OF ORGANISTS

We have a very special event on 15th January 2022 when the BCOA’s ‘Christian Strover Organ Education Project’ will be officially ‘launched’ alongside the similar scheme already operated by the SSLSO.

The arrangements that have been made so far are as follows:

Attendance

We encourage all members of BCOA and SSLSO to attend this event and guests will be welcome. There will not be a charge for admission but we invite members to make a donation (£5 suggested) towards the costs of the afternoon and the tuition schemes. Please sign in on attendance lists as usual.

We will be inviting all the students to attend with their families.

Venue

The event will take place at St. John’s, East Dulwich, 62A East Dulwich Rd, London, SE22 9AT.

Travel / Parking

There is some street-parking in Adys Road and service road East Dulwich Road (north of Goose Green). NB the main East Dulwich Road A2214 (south of Goose Green) is a major thoroughfare, not good for parking.

Nearby bus routes are: 37 40 42 176 185 484 P13 .

East Dulwich railway station (Caterham/Croydon/Beckenham to London Bridge main line) is a 10-minute walk from Grove Vale (A2216).

Special Guest

Our Special Guest is Anna Lapwood who, at the age of 26, has already achieved distinction as organist, conductor and broadcaster. She was appointed Director of Music at Pembroke College, Cambridge at 21, becoming the youngest person ever to hold such a post in an Oxbridge College. She studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, where she was the first woman in the College’s 560 year history to be awarded an organ scholarship. She was an organ soloist in the 2021 BBC Proms and was a main presenter for the televised coverage of the BBC Young Musician competition. She sings in Gareth Malone’s professional ensemble Voices; she also plays the violin and viola and was the principal harpist in the National Youth Orchestra.

Certificates

Special certificates have been produced for each of the students recording that they have been awarded bursaries from one of the projects.

Photographer

There will be an official photographer present to ‘record’ the events of the afternoon.
