IAO Eastern Region Organ Day, Saturday 31st May 2025, 10:30am-4:30pm

Members of the SSLSO and guests are welcome to attend the IAO Eastern Region Organ Day, taking place on 31st May 2025 from 10:30am to 4:30pm at Our Lady and The English Martyrs’ RC Church (OLEM), Hills Road, Cambridge, CB2 1JR. The church houses the magnificent Abbott & Smith organ, designed by C V Stanford.  The day will include a composite recital by members of each association within the region, including our own Alan Langridge who will be playing one of three pieces by J.S. Bach in the programme. It really promises to be an excellent day out. The finishing time should allow folk to attend Evensong at one of the college chapels in the city centre – a moderate walk or short bus-ride from OLEM.

Transport

By train from London (King’s X and possibly other stations) picking up a service bus towards city centre at Cambridge station – turn left from Cambridge station exit for the bus stands.

By express coach (from London Greenline Station – wherever that is! – no indication of coaches from Victoria Bus Station)

By car to Trumpington Park & Ride, then service bus towards city centre – alight at Lensfield Road (stop may say Botanic Gardens, but hey) and walk eastwards along Lensfield Road to junction with Hills Road. OLEM is on the corner – opposite Parker’s Piece (erroneously labelled Parker’s Place on the P&R map). Park free at P&R – modest fare on bus – Freedom Passes accepted – hurrah!. NB Last bus back to P&R is c8.00 – 8.30 pm, allowing time to attend Evensong at King’s or Jesus Colleges. Sadly the King’s post-evensong organ recitals have been transferred from Saturday to Sunday.
