Annual Dinner 2018

At Bistro 1, Soho

For the third year running, the annual dinner was held at Bistro 1 in Soho on the 24th Jan 2018, not far from the famous Ronnie Scott’s. One is tempted to imagine that hoards of organists might head there afterwards to hear some of the best playing and improvising in the world. However, we were content with each other’s company, and were able to present Hon Dec Richard with a surprise birthday greeting, and to send greetings to President Harry who was unable to join us. Bistro 1, under new management, continues to be excellent value for money, and we all enjoy their colourful hanging lamps. Our guest speaker was Fr John Pritchard, Vicar of St John’s Upper Norwood, where our member Bridget is the Assistant Director of Music. He spoke amusingly about his own experiences learning the organ and exhorted us all to encourage the young, which some are doing anyway. It is always good to catch up with members one rarely sees and to welcome guests and friends of new ones.
