{"id":9256,"date":"2023-05-06T09:00:50","date_gmt":"2023-05-06T09:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sslso.org.uk\/?p=9256"},"modified":"2023-06-16T08:43:36","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T08:43:36","slug":"outing-to-friern-barnet-and-southgate-north-london-saturday-23rd-september-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sslso.org.uk\/?p=9256","title":{"rendered":"Outing to Friern Barnet and Southgate, North London &#8211; Saturday, 23<sup>rd<\/sup> September 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>11:00am <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/allsaints.uk.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/allsaints.uk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">All Saints Church<\/a>, 122 Oakleigh Road, Friern Barnet \/ North Whetstone, N20 9EZ, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npor.org.uk\/survey\/N07978\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">organ by Church and Co<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2.30p.m. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.standrews-southgate.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">St. Andrew\u2019s Church<\/a>, Chase Side, Southgate, N14 5PP; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npor.org.uk\/survey\/D00424\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">organ 1867 by Willis<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>This will be a joint event with the Enfield and District Association.&nbsp; Travel to Arnos Grove Station on the Piccadilly line of the Underground.&nbsp; On leaving the Station, cross the road to bus stop A to catch a 34 (destination \u201cBarnet Church\u201d).&nbsp; This route is frequent and you need to get out at the Myddelton Park stop; the first church is a few yards further on, on the left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.00a.m. All Saints, Church, 122 Oakleigh Road, Friern Barnet \/ North Whetstone, N20 9EZ<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organ by Bryceson (1883) is (I think) still in the building but not used \/ usable.&nbsp; It was replaced by an instrument from Church and Co. of Newcastle in 1984.&nbsp; It has two manuals and 29 speaking stops, including a Nightingale and Cymbal Star on the Great and Heraldic Trumpet on the Swell.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At about 12.15p.m. we finish at All Saints.&nbsp; You may use the churchyard to have a packed lunch, but it may be warmer to eat at one of several places near our second venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cross the road at the traffic lights near All Saints and use the Myddelton park bus stop going south.&nbsp; Take the 125 (showing destination \u201cWinchmore Hill\u201d) and get out at the stop just after St. Andrew\u2019s Church in Southgate, which will be on your left.&nbsp; Between the Church and the bus stop are a Wetherspoon\u2019s, Pizza Express and an Italian restaurant called \u201cFantozzi\u201d.&nbsp; There are plenty of other places, too.&nbsp; Nothing is booked, but if small groups go to various eateries we ought to be fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.30p.m. St. Andrew\u2019s Church, Chase Side, Southgate, N14 5PP &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vicar, Fr.
