Meet others with and interest in organs and organ music<\/em><\/span><\/h1>\n

\"4Peter75\"<\/a>I am Peter Ramell, the Treasurer and Membership Secretary, and I want to tell you about our Society and the reasons why you might like to join us.<\/p>\n

We are a small society of organ and organ music enthusiasts with about 90 members, mainly, but not exclusively, from South London.<\/p>\n

Our activities include visits to a number of churches\u00a0where we are introduced to the organ, hear it being played, and get an opportunity to play\u00a0it ourselves. We also\"SSLSO<\/a> have short master classes in improvisation, registration, keyboard skills, an evening soiree and occasionally talks or performances. See our current programme of events here<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

The meetings are informal and some people just come to hear the music, but it is also a marvellous opportunity to share thoughts<\/strong> with other like-minded people and establish contacts and broaden our general perspective.<\/p>\n

We have two popular social events once a year: an \u2018Annual Dinner\u2019<\/strong>, generally held in October, and a \u2018Composite recital\u2019<\/strong> by members and friends at the Penge Congregational Church<\/a><\/strong>. This latter event attracts people of all playing levels from across our membership and is very popular.<\/p>\n

We have an excellent website (sslso.org.uk) where the Home page describes the future activities. Members can promote their recitals or events by putting stuff up on the\u00a0<\/strong>Diary<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0page and make announcements on our Announcement <\/strong><\/span><\/a>page (for sale, jobs etc) and we have a unique way in which members can put this up such that it becomes live immediately.<\/strong> You could also have a recording of yourself playing on our youtube channel and we can arrange making a video of you doing this as part of the member\u2019s service, if you wish. Marilyn Harper, <\/strong>a\u00a0former Chair,\u00a0<\/strong>has written in the past\u00a0a monthly blog<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, on topics that attracted her attention.<\/p>\n

Our annual subscription is modest – \u00a325 for full membership: \u00a318 for senior (over 65) and \u00a39 for students. Part of it gives us an affiliated status with the Incorporated Association\u00a0of Organists<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0This gives us access to the IAO\u2019s quarterly journal, the\u00a0Organists\u2019 Review<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>at a reduced rate and allows us to be able to take part in the Annual Congress<\/strong> and the London Organ Day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Society is non-denominational; the only qualification needed is an interest in organ music or the organ.<\/p>\n
