Visit: Christ’s Chapel Dulwich May 2018

Open Afternoon to view  the Organ

Saturday 12th May 2018 3.00pm-4.30pm

Since the Christʼs Chapel Open Organ Afternoon was established in 2013, the annual event continues to be a popular attraction.  Past SSLSO Chairman and Chapel Organist, Marilyn Harper, was assisted by Chairman Andrew Chadney and Treasurer Peter Ramell in guiding potential new members to the Society. Those brave enough to try out the organ ranged in age from young to much older, including those who have learned in their youth and want to catch up, to younger players keen to try out suitable piano pieces on the organ.  One such played an Associated Board Piano exam piece by Krebs, said to be Bachʼs favourite pupil. Another tried to remember the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, and another played the hymn, Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation.  He was pleased to have played this magnificent hymn on an organ with much more power than the one he was used to playing. This reminds us of how fortunate we are to have such a splendid resource. It was also a great pleasure to see some of the same people attending the organ recital the following day.
