    Biography

    Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin studied organ at the Ecole Nationale de Musique in Le Mans and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. She is considered to be one of the finest improvisors of her generation and has been co-titular of the Grand Orgue of Saint Sulpice, Paris since 1985.

    She has an extensive international career giving recitals and masterclasses throughout Europe, Russia, Japan, China, USA and Canada.

    In 2008 she was appointed an Organ Professor at the Royal College of Music in London.

    Come and Sing Fauré Requiem and Britten’s St Nicolas
    Following the success of our “Come and Sing Messiah” in 2008, all are welcome to join us for a day of rehearsals and workshops leading to a performance of these two great works.

    The concert performance will be at 7.30pm, tickets priced at £10 available on the door.

    SOUTHWARK & SOUTH LONDON SOCIETY OF ORGANISTS   2010 Progamme


    Saturday 27 February 2.00pm

    Meet at St. Luke’s, Battersea (Lewis organ, rebuilt and enlarged by Harrison in 2009) & on to St. Mary’s, Battersea (organ by Saxon Aldred 1991)

    Tuesday 20 April 20 7.30pm

    Meeting at St. Peter’s, Walworth (organ delivered in 2009).  Welcome and demonstration of the organ, with access to the instrument for anyone who would like to play. Annual General Meeting, coffee served.

    Friday to Sunday 28-30 May

    Visit to organs in Ghent (hotel accommodation is being arranged).  Travel by Eurostar, hopefully via Brussels, visiting the Cathedral.  If you can’t be free on Friday, you can join us on Saturday.

    Saturday 25 September

    Visit to organs in Kippington, Brasted, Westerham and Limpsfield area on the Kent / Surrey border.  Morning and afternoon.  Pub lunch.

    Saturday 9 October

    Annual dinner with guest speaker.

    Saturday 20 November  2.30pm

    Visit to St. Swithun’s, Hither Green Lane, Lewisham.  The excellent Conacher organ was once in Blenheim Palace. 4.15pm visit to St. Andrew’s, Torridon Road, Catford, to see and play the 1908 Hunter organ, restored by Nicholson of Malvern.

    There are still some copies of “Grand Chorus,” the Society’s double CD of local organs of South London Society produced jointly with the Royal Academy of Music, may be obtained from John Webber, at £12 per copy (plus postage). This would make a great present!
