Southwark and South London Society of Organists
Visit to organs in Kent and Surrey: Saturday 25 September 2010
1030 - Meet at St Mary Kippington, Kippington Road, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 2LL. The organ here was originally a mechanical action II/P instrument built in 1880 by Brindley and Foster. Now a III/P instrument, it was last restored in 1999 by J. W. Walker.
See http://www.npor.org.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch.cgi?Fn=Rsearch&rec_index=R01506
1145 - Depart for St Mary the Virgin Westerham, TN16 1AX (5.6 miles). Car parking is very limited - nearest car park is in Quebec Avenue, behind the church.
1200 - Meet at St Mary the Virgin Westerham. The II/P organ was built in 1871 by T.C. Lewis for Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk, and moved to Westerham in 1883. Since then it has been restored by Kingsgate Davidson (1961) and cleaned by Ralph Arnold (1985).
See http://www.npor.org.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch.cgi?Fn=Rsearch&rec_index=N12746
1315 - Depart for lunch at the George and Dragon, Market Square, Westerham (100 yard walk). Please let me know in advance whether you will be taking lunch here, as I would like to let the staff know the size of our party 7 days beforehand.
1430 - Depart for St Martin, Church Road, Brasted, Kent TN16 1NR (2 miles).
1440 - Meet at St Martin Brasted. The II/P mechanical action organ was installed in 1992 by J.W.Walker, and replaced the previous instrument which was destroyed in a fire in 1989.
See http://www.npor.org.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch.cgi?Fn=Rsearch&rec_index=D05982
1550 - Depart for St Peter Limpsfield, High Street, Limpsfield, Surrey RH8 0DG (5.5 miles).
1600 - Meet at St Peter, Limpsfield. The II/P organ, originally built by Hill, Norman & Beard for Shorncliffe Garrison, Folkestone, was installed here by Peter Collins in 2002, and is the fifth organ to have been installed in the church.
See http://www.npor.org.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch.cgi?Fn=Rsearch&rec_index=R00676
If sufficient members (10 - 15) are interested, we can book a cream tea at St Peters. Again, please let Graham know if you would like to take advantage of this. There is a suggested minimum donation of £2.50 per head for this.
Please let me know if you will be coming along.
